Naomi Salisbury - Director

Expand

I first came to work at Self injury Support in 2013 to run the helpline service. After working in community development and advocacy roles for over 10 years the helpline role brought all of my experience and passion together in one role, as a friend said - if you don't apply I'll apply for you!. In 2017 I became organisational Director. When not at work I can be found wrangling my cats and child, singing in an amazing choir, stewarding at my local repair cafe/produce exchange and then trying to work out what to make with the range of vegetables I acquire there!

Mel Bates - Listening Services Manager

Expand
I first got involved with Self Injury Support when I started volunteering on the helpline 9 years ago. I found the values of the organisation and the dedication of the team an inspiration. I joined the staff team in 2020 first as a services assistant then as a listening services manager. When I’m not at work I enjoy volunteering for another project, boxing, running and walking my dog. Nature, politics, music, friends and family are all important to me.

Murphy Pickard - Lived Experience Support Worker

Expand

It’s safe to say that my mental health journey has been a roller coaster but working on myself in 2021/2022 helped flatten out the twists and turns a little more. I found Self Injury Support online and I have never applied to a job opening quicker in my life. To contribute to the system that helped me is beyond rewarding.

Outside of work, I’m a creative bean. I try to spend my free time doing music projects, creating art, fitness activities, acting and spending quality time with friends.

Jen Price - Lived Experience Support Worker

Expand

I joined SIS in December 2020 as a Lived Experience Support Worker on the A&E follow up service, part time, alongside doing my illustration degree. Before that I was a young carer and then went on to become a Health Care Assistant during the pandemic. I have a passion for mental health which is often reflected in my art practice and I'm able to use my creative skills when supporting service users. Outside of work I love going to gigs, getting tattoos and chilling with my two pet tree frogs, Frida and Flump (also known as the emotional support frogs).

After some careful thought, we have come to the decision to temporarily suspend our listening support services in the new year. This includes our helpline, text, email, & webchat support services. We understand that a temporary closure may not feel like a positive thing & could feel difficult, but we want to reassure you that we want to be here to offer the best support that we can & in order to do that, we need to take a break now to in place the things in place that will help us do that

  • Casual Sex As Self Harm

    Casual Sex As Self Harm

For months I would go to the areas of town where lone women were told not to go. I would purposely go to the places and do the things that I knew were putting me at risk. I fooled myself into thinking I was in control, that it was a calculated risk. I wasn't finding people on a dating app, I wasn't going on blind dates or finding people through mutual friends. I was going to the bars that people would advise me to avoid and actively looking for a one night stand.
